General Entry Requirements

To be considered for admission to any academic program at Uganda Petroleum Institute Kigumba, all applicants must meet the following general criteria. These form the baseline for eligibility.

Academic Qualifications

Hold a Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) with at least two principal passes obtained at the same sitting, or its recognized equivalent.

Uganda Certificate of Education

Possess a Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) with at least five passes, including English Language and Mathematics.

National ID/Passport

Provide a valid national identification document or passport as proof of citizenship and identity.

Age Requirement

Meet the minimum age requirement where applicable (specific to certain programs).

Program-Specific Requirements

Each program at UPIK has specific prerequisites to ensure foundational knowledge. Applicants must satisfy both general and program-specific criteria.

Diploma in Downstream Petroleum Operations

  • UACE: Principal Passes in Physics and Mathematics.
  • UCE: Credits in Chemistry are highly desirable.
  • Background: Relevant certificates may allow direct entry.

Diploma in Upstream Petroleum Operations

  • UACE: Principal Passes in Physics, Math, or Geography.
  • UCE: Credits in Chemistry and Biology are advantageous.

  • Background: Relevant certificates may allow direct entry.

Diploma in Health Safety & Environment

  • UACE: Principal Passes in Physics and Mathematics.
  • UCE: Credits in Chemistry are highly desirable.
  • Background: Relevant certificates may allow direct entry.

Equivalence of Qualifications

Applicants with qualifications from educational systems outside Uganda must have their academic credentials equated by the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) or the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) before applying.

Official equivalence statements must be submitted with your application.

Special Entry Schemes

UPIK may offer special entry schemes for mature age entry, diploma holders, or recognized professional qualifications. These pathways are designed to accommodate diverse educational backgrounds.
