Head of Department: Electrical Maintenance

Asaba Curthbert is a lecturer at Uganda Petroleum Institute Kigumba. He happens to be one of the six pioneer lecturers at UPIK since its inception in March 2010.    He currently lectures Electrical Installations, Electrical Maintenance, and Well Planning. 

He is also the current Head of Electrical Maintenance section, and students’ project coordinator.

Curthbert taught before at Kiryandongo Technical Institute (2003 – 2008) Kigumba Business & Vocational training Institute (2013 - 2015). He is also a consultant, trainer and assessor in the City and Guilds up skilling, Proficiency Testing and Assessing with The Assessment and Skilling Center (TASC) in the Albertine region based in Hoima District - the Oil City of Uganda. 

He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering (BSc. ELE) from Makerere University Kampala (2010), Ordinary Diploma in Electrical Engineering (ODEE) from Uganda Technical College Kichwamba – Fort portal (2002) and Uganda Craft Certificate in Electrical Installation LEVEL II from Directorate of Industrial Training (2008)

He also holds the following various international diplomas and certificates: - City and Guilds Level 3 IVQ Advanced Diploma in Teaching, Training and Assessing learning from Kenson School of Production Technology, San Fernando, Trinidad and Tobago (2014); City and Guilds Level 3 IVQ Advanced  Award in Oil and Gas (core skills) from Kenson School of Production Technology, San Fernando, Trinidad and Tobago (2014); OPITO Tropical Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training (T- BOSIET) from HHSL Safety Systems Limited, Point Lisas Trinidad and Tobago (2014); Introduction to Drilling Equipment and Operations from Well Services Petroleum Company Limited Drilling School Trinidad and Tobago (2014).

He further holds an Advanced Training of Trainer’s Certificate from Stavanger Offshore Technical School, Stavanger, Norway (2011); Training of Trainer’s introduction Certificate in Oil and Gas and HSE from RKK, Norway(2010).

He has undergone an in service training on Logo and Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) Using Logic module and Simatic Step 7 300 series – (2016) with RE-POWER Technical services Limited Kampala Uganda.

Curthbert is currently doing a course of Masters of Science in Power Systems Engineering at Makerere University Kampala with emphasis of research in areas of Energy Utilization, Power Electronics, Instrumentation and Control.
